About Me

I learned to sew "at my mother's knee", starting when I was about 5 years old. Kiltmaking came a little later, but the fascination with producing a perfect, heirloom garment has never faded.

And recently, a kiltmaker friend asked me to make kilts for her whole family - now that's a recommendation!
Careful colour matching

How I Work

As a classically-trained kiltmaker, I follow very traditional methods of construction.

Everything starts with very careful measurements. There are only three of them, but they are critical to the successful fit of the finished product. Your kilt will require approximately twenty-five hours of hand sewing, and I use only the finest canvases for the invisible inside construction that makes a garment that will stand the test of decades of wear. On the outside, beautiful tartans from the best Scottish Mills, to allow you to honour your heritage with pride.

Ensure Proper Fit

I always prefer to measure clients personally to be certain that the measurements are taken correctly.

However, if it isn't possible for you to come to me, here are some instructions to help you get the next best fit.

MOST IMPORTANT - do NOT measure yourself, enlist a friend!

Tie a piece of string or elastic around your middle (no, REALLY!). Make sure that it is higher than you wear your trousers or jeans ... at your NATURAL waist. That should be about ONE INCH above your navel, but feel for the soft part on your side between your hip bone and your lowest rib. Once the string or elastic is in place, use a sewing tape measure over top of it and take a SNUG measurement - your kilt top will be 2" higher than this waist level.

The next measurement is your hips at the largest point. Empty your pockets first, but keep THIS measurement LOOSE.

The last measurement is the length. Have your friend measure down from the string at your waist to the top of your knee (or mid-knee AT THE LONGEST). Record this number - I will add the necessary rise. Look straight ahead - DO NOT look down. That can alter the measurement & make your kilt end up the wrong length.

Two-Part Guarantee

If I measure you personally:

I guarantee that your kilt will fit correctly. In the unlikely event that adjustments are required, they will be done at no cost to you.

If I make a kilt from measurements you provide:

I guarantee that the kilt will match those measurements. If any adjustments are required, there will be additional charges.
